My Role
I led the redesign while collaborating with another designer, iOS and Android engineers, a backend engineer, and a product manager. I used prototyping to secure buy-in from stakeholders and supported the team throughout the development process.

Background
AtWork is a mobile app that lets employees interact with their building, offering various features, including the ability to book and reserve resources within the space.
Challenge
New customers needed more functionality from our workstation solution.
The existing system only supported assigned workstations and did not yet include workstation bookings.
Initial Approach and Discovery
Our first approach was to enhance the existing map view which displayed assigned workstations to support workstation selection and booking. However, after testing with users, we uncovered issues that prompted us to rethink our approach.
With the initial approach, some users struggled to navigate the map, making changes to bookings was complex and finding workstations was difficult without filtering options.
Key Design Decisions
A list view and filters to aid discovery
I introduced a list view alongside the existing map view to improve accessibility, and added filters to help users find workstations that match their preferences.
Keeping the filter and date picker fixed ensured that toggling between views was seamless and less jarring for users.
The redesign included both a list and map view.
Favourite workstations
A favorites feature was included to make it easier for users to find and book their preferred workstations. Users could mark a workstation as a favorite either while booking it or when viewing booking details.
Accessible Entry Points
AtWork has many features, so it was important to make workstation bookings easy to find on the app. We made it accessible from widgets on the homepage, the bookings page, and even through notifications on the user's device.

I also introduced a simpler way to modify bookings by allowing users replace a workstation instead of editing individual details.
Userflows I created to illustrate the complexity of editing workstation bookings.
While exploring ideas, I discovered that modifying the date and time of existing bookings was complex and error-prone, often leading to unavailable selections. So, I opted for a simpler solution.
Allowing users to replace a workstation reduced errors as users would only see available workstations when booking.
Simplified 4 step process for booking workstation that reduced errors.
Impact
We successfully deployed the enhancements on both iOS and Android, expanding our feature set to better support employees while helping workplace management teams optimize space management.
